What happened
On March 17, 2011, a Champion 7GCBC, registration N5160X, was involved in an accident in Nenana, Alaska. The pilot was attempting to land the wheel-equipped aircraft on a frozen, snow-covered river under visual meteorological conditions (VMC).
During the landing sequence, the main landing gear wheels encountered soft snow, causing the aircraft to nose over. The impact resulted in substantial damage to both wings and the vertical stabilizer. The pilot was not injured.
