Event
On March 24, 2011, at 2230 UTC, a Bell 205A-1 helicopter, Chilean registration CC-CID, was destroyed when it experienced a tail rotor malfunction and impacted terrain in San Clemente, Chile. The flight was conducting fire fighting operations under visual meteorological conditions, in accordance with Chilean flight regulations.
Aircraft
The helicopter involved was a Bell 205A-1, a single-rotor turbine-powered aircraft commonly used for utility and aerial fire fighting. The aircraft was destroyed upon impact.
Crew
The pilot sustained fatal injuries, and one crew member suffered serious injuries.
