What happened
On May 14, 2011, at approximately 0112 UTC, an Air Cuenca Boeing 737-500, registration HC-CJB, was performing a landing on runway 23 at Mariscal Lamar Airport (CUE) in Cuenca, Ecuador. During the landing roll, the aircraft experienced a loss of directional control. The airplane veered off the runway near the departure end and crossed the adjacent taxiway/turnout. The aircraft came to a stop with its left main gear positioned off the taxiway. There were no injuries to any persons, and the aircraft sustained minor damage.
The investigation
The investigation was conducted by the Junta Investigadora de Accidentes de la República del Ecuador. As the State of Manufacture and Design for the aircraft and engines, the NTSB appointed an Accredited Representative to assist the local authorities under ICAO Annex 13.
