Incident Summary
The pilot of a tail-wheel equipped airplane reported that he landed on a rough turf runway without incident. During the after landing roll, he noticed a 5-gallon bucket midfield, off the left side of the runway. The pilot attempted to stop the airplane in a short distance because he wanted to retrieve the bucket; however, during this maneuver, the airplane nosed over and came to rest inverted.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to its right wing and vertical stabilizer as a result of the nose-over.
Pilot Statement
The pilot stated that the airplane did not experience any mechanical malfunctions prior to or during the event. The pilot's actions were initiated solely due to the presence of the bucket on the runway side.
