What happened
On June 23, 2011, at approximately 1000 UTC, a Cirrus SR20, registered as LX-MPR, crashed into a mountain slope near Cairo Montenotte, Italy. The flight had departed about one hour earlier from Cannes-Mandelieu Airport (LFMD) in Cannes, France, and was en route to Verona Boscomantico Airport (LIPSEC) in Verona, Italy.
At the time of the accident, the area was experiencing instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). The aircraft struck terrain at an elevation of approximately 833 meters above mean sea level. The impact and a subsequent post-crash fire caused substantial damage to the aircraft. All three occupants—the pilot and two passengers—were 3 fatal.
