A pilot flying an amphibian float-equipped airplane intended to practice water landings. After taking off from a paved runway, he neglected to retract the landing gear. During the approach to a large nearby pond for his first water landing, he did not notice that the wheels were still extended. When he attempted the water landing, the airplane nosed over.
