Accident Overview
On August 28, 2011, at 1500 UTC, a Hughes 369D helicopter, bearing Vanuatu registration YJ-HEL, collided with the ground near Malekula, Vanuatu. The accident occurred when the attached long-line became entangled in the rotor system. The helicopter was operated by Vanuatu Helicopters under the civil regulations of Vanuatu.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot sustained fatal injuries, while the two passengers received minor injuries. The helicopter was substantially damaged.
