What happened

On October 17, 2011, a Boeing 777-300 operated by Singapore Airlines encountered turbulence while in the cruise phase of flight. The aircraft, registered as 9V-SYH, was performing a passenger flight from Shanghai, China, to Singapore. The turbulence occurred approximately 10nm east of waypoint KARAN.

As a result of the event, there was 1 serious injury and 20 minor injuries among the passengers and cabin crew. The five cabin crew members and fifteen passengers sustained minor injuries. The aircraft sustained no damage.
