Occurrence Details

On November 4, 2011, at approximately 1640 UTC, a Cessna 402C (Colombian registration HK4417) operated by AeroEjecutivos De Antioquia S.A. suffered a failure of the left main landing gear during the takeoff roll at El Carano Airport (SKUI) in Quibdo, Colombia. The aircraft was on an air taxi flight destined for E. Olaya Herrera Airport (SKMD) in Medellin. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the incident.

The flight was originating from runway 13, which is surfaced with asphalt. According to personnel from the Colombia Civil Aviation Authority, about 1,000 feet into the takeoff roll, the flight crew noted excessive vibration, followed by the collapse of the left main landing gear. The airplane then departed the left side of the runway and came to rest in an upright position with the left main landing gear separated from the aircraft.

Damage and Injuries

The airplane sustained minor damage as a result of the landing gear collapse and subsequent ground contact. There were no injuries reported among the two certificated commercial pilots (a pilot and co-pilot) or the eight passengers on board.
