What happened
On November 4, 2011, at approximately 1640 UTC, a Cessna 402C, operating under Colombian registration HK4417, experienced a failure of the left main landing gear during takeoff from El Carano Airport (SKUI) in Quibdo, Colombia. The aircraft, operated by AeroEjecutivos De Antioquia S.A., was performing an originating flight toward E. Olaya Herrera Airport (SKMD) in Medellin, Colombia.
During the takeoff roll on the asphalt runway 13, the aircraft reached approximately 1,000 feet when the crew noted excessive vibration. This was immediately followed by the collapse of the left main landing gear. The aircraft subsequently veered toward the left side of the runway and came to a stop in an upright position, though the left main gear had separated from the airframe.
At the time of the accident, weather conditions were characterized by visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 6 statute miles. There were no injuries reported among the two crew members or the 8 passengers on board. The aircraft sustained minor damage.
