What happened
On March 25, 2012, at 1830 UTC, a Piper PA-32R-300, registration N8415C, crashed near Treasure Cay International Airport (MYAT) in Abaco, Bahamas. The aircraft was conducting a personal flight under visual flight rules (VFR) toward St. Lucie County International Airport (KFPR) in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Following a departure from runway 32 on a downwind course, the airplane struck trees. The accident resulted in 4 fatal injuries. The occupants included two certificated private pilots and two passengers.
At the time of the accident, weather conditions were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 220 degrees at 15 knots.
