2012 Beech E-55 Baron Accident at Broken Bow Municipal Airport (N1567W)

Accident Overview and Flight History On March 28, 2012, a Beech E-55 Baron, registration N1567W, was substantially damaged when it impacted terrain during an approach to Broken Bow Municipal Airport (BBW) in Nebraska. The flight, a personal operation under 14 CFR Part 91, originated from Dickinson – Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport (DIK) at 1053 and was intended for Russell Municipal Airport (RSL) in Kansas. The pilot was seriously injured, and the sole passenger was fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and the flight was not operated on a flight plan. After takeoff, the aircraft climbed to 11,500 feet MSL. At 1303, the pilot reported an engine failure to Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center while approximately 20 miles west-northwest of BBW and diverted to the airport. The final radar contact at 1313:41 placed the aircraft 1.53 miles northwest of BBW at 3,400 feet MSL.
