What happened
On April 6, 2012, at approximately 1240 UTC, an AgustaWestland A119 helicopter, registered as RA-01980, crashed onto the frozen Yanisyarvi lake. The accident occurred in the Sortavalsk district of the Leningradsky region, approximately 5 km from the Chernye Kamni camp in Russia.
At the time of the accident, the weather consisted of instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) caused by snow showers. The flight had originated from St. Petersburg, Russia.
The crash resulted in 4 fatalities, involving the two crew members and two passengers. All individuals were Russian citizens. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.
