NTSB Assists Spanish Investigation of Two Boeing 737 Accident

Incident Overview

On April 13, 2012, an accident involving two Boeing 737 airplanes occurred. The Spanish Comisión de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes de Aviación Civil (CIAIAC) received notification of the event. As the investigative authority in Spain, CIAIAC is leading the inquiry into the circumstances.

Investigation Process

Following standard international protocols, CIAIAC notified the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the accident. In response, the NTSB appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to participate in the investigation. This appointment is made under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, which designates the NTSB as the representative of the state of manufacture and design for the Boeing 737 aircraft. The U.S. representative will provide technical assistance to the CIAIAC investigation. All investigative information and findings will be released by the CIAIAC as the lead investigating body.
