Accident Overview
On June 3, 2012, at approximately 1545 hours local time, a Boeing MD-83 aircraft, registration 5N-RAM, operated by Dana Airlines Limited as flight 992 (DAN 992), crashed into a densely populated area during a forced landing. The accident occurred following a total loss of power in both engines while the airplane was on approach to Murtala Muhammed Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time, and the flight was operating under instrument flight rules.
Occupants and Fatalities
The airplane was carrying 153 persons, including 6 crew members. All aboard received fatal injuries. Additionally, 10 individuals on the ground were fatally injured. The aircraft was destroyed by impact and a subsequent fire.

Investigation
The Nigeria Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has instituted an investigation into the accident. As the state of manufacture of the airplane and engines, the United States has appointed an Accredited Representative with technical advisors from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration, The Boeing Company, and Pratt & Whitney Engines.
