What happened

On June 3, 2012, at approximately 1545 hours local time, a Boeing MD-83, registration 5N-RAM, was operating as flight 992 from Abuja International Airport (ABV) to Muhammed Murtala Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria. While on approach to LOS, the aircraft experienced a total loss of power in both engines.

Following the loss of engine power, the crew attempted a forced landing, but the aircraft crashed into a densely populated area. The impact resulted in a post-impact fire and the destruction of the airplane. There were 153 fatal injuries among the 6 crew members and 147 passengers, along with 10 ground fatalities.

At the time of the accident, the flight was operating under instrument flight rules, and visual meteorological conditions were present.
