Event Overview
A pilot reported that during the takeoff roll, the airplane unexpectedly veered to the left. The pilot was unable to stop the aircraft before it departed the left side of the runway.
Witness Account
A witness at the airport observed the airplane airborne over the grass area between the runway and taxiway. The witness then saw the right wing strike the ground.
Sequence of Events
After the right wing struck the ground, the airplane bounced on the right and left main landing gears. It eventually came to rest on the grass.
Damage
The airplane's right wing sustained substantial damage.
Post-Accident Examination
A Federal Aviation Administration inspector conducted a post-accident examination of the airplane. The examination did not reveal any preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.
