Hard Landing Results in Nose Gear Collapse and Firewall Buckling

Accident Overview

A certificated private pilot was conducting a landing to the north following an uneventful flight and approach. Upon touchdown, the airplane experienced multiple bounces. During the final bounce, the airplane contacted the runway with significant force, resulting in damage to the nose gear and collapse of the nose gear tire. The pilot reported that the propeller did not strike the runway and the engine continued to operate throughout the sequence.

Examination Findings

Post-accident examination of the airplane revealed a buckled engine firewall. The pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have prevented normal operation of the airplane.
