Incident
On 5 July 2012, at approximately 1100 UTC, a SunExpress Deutschland Boeing 737-800, registration D-ASXE, experienced turbulence while in cruise between Gaziantep, Turkey, and Frankfurt, Germany. The aircraft was carrying 86 passengers and crew. One crew member sustained serious injuries as a result of the turbulence. The airplane itself was not damaged.
Investigation
The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Investigation (BFU) is conducting the investigation into the incident. In accordance with ICAO Annex 13, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has appointed an Accredited Representative to assist, as the United States is the State of Manufacture and Design of the airplane. All inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the BFU.
