Aerial Application Flight Nose-Over After Wing Strikes Corn During Takeoff

Accident Details

A pilot conducting an aerial application flight experienced a takeoff accident on a private airstrip. The airstrip was 80 feet wide and consisted of rough grass. During the takeoff roll, the airplane began to bounce and drift to the right. The right wing subsequently contacted corn adjacent to the airstrip, causing the airplane to veer further to the right and then nose over.

The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot did not indicate any issues with the aircraft systems or controls prior to the accident.

Damage

The accident resulted in substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage of the airplane. The extent of the damage necessitated significant repairs.
