Incident Overview
During the takeoff roll and initial climb, the pilot perceived that the airspeed was insufficient to clear a hill ahead. In response, the pilot aborted the takeoff, landed the airplane, and attempted to bring it to a stop before the end of the 2,400-foot runway. However, the airplane continued off the departure end of the runway and collided with a ditch.
Damage Assessment
A post-accident examination revealed substantial damage to both wings and the firewall. The extent of the damage indicates a significant impact with the ditch.
