Background
The pilot intended to show passengers the local area during a flight. After departing from the airport, the flight proceeded north.
Flight
Shortly after sunset, the pilot reversed course to return to the airport. During the return leg, he realized he had turned into the incorrect canyon and was unable to outclimb the rising terrain.
Accident
The pilot subsequently initiated a precautionary landing onto a hillside. During the landing, the right wing sustained substantial damage.
