Incident Overview
According to the pilot's accident report, he was conducting touch-and-go landings on runway 36. After completing two landings and while on the third approach, he observed that the wind sock had shifted, now favoring runway 18. The pilot executed a go-around and initiated an approach to runway 18.
Landing Event
The pilot reported gusty wind conditions. After performing a conventional (tail wheel) landing on runway 18, the left wing began to rise and the tail swung to the right. The pilot applied left rudder input, but the tail continued moving to the right. Subsequently, the right main landing gear buckled and the right wing struck the runway surface.
Aircraft Damage
The right wing sustained crushing damage from the strut to the wingtip. No other damage was specified in the report.
