Accident Details
According to the pilot's report, the accident occurred after landing a wheel-equipped airplane on the plowed surface of an ice runway. While taxiing, the pilot lost directional control, and the airplane veered off the intended path. It subsequently impacted a snow bank located at the edge of the runway.
Damage Assessment
The impact caused the nose gear to collapse. Additionally, the engine mount and forward fuselage were substantially damaged. The pilot stated that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures, indicating that the loss of control was not due to a mechanical issue.
Circumstances
The airplane was equipped with wheels and was operating on a prepared ice runway. The runway surface had been plowed, suggesting it was cleared of snow but remained icy. The pilot did not report any other factors, such as weather conditions or visibility issues.
