What happened
On May 14, 2013, a Cessna U206G, registration N707WJ, was operating in the airport traffic pattern at Friday Harbor, WA. While on the downwind leg, the aircraft struck an eagle. Following the impact, the pilot was able to land the airplane without further incident. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the right outboard wing. There were no injuries resulting from the event.
The investigation
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures occurring prior to the impact that would have prevented the normal operation of the aircraft. Weather conditions at the time were VMC with visibility of 10 statute miles.
