Incident Details
The pilot reported that as the airplane touched down on the runway, a gust of wind lifted the right wing. In response, the pilot attempted to abort the landing by adding engine power. However, upon seeing that he would be unable to clear the trees at the end of the runway, he retarded the throttle and committed to landing the airplane.
The airplane landed off the runway and, during the subsequent excursion, collided with a parked glider trailer.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to its wings and fuselage as a result of the collision. The extent of the damage required significant repair.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. The incident was attributed solely to the wind gust and the pilot's actions in response to the situation.
