What happened
On July 2, 2013, a Cessna 140, registration N72343, was performing a takeoff roll from a narrow, private dirt airstrip in Vernon, Texas. During the roll, the pilot observed the aircraft veering to the left. In an effort to realign the aircraft with the runway centerline, the pilot applied excessive right brake. This overcorrection caused the aircraft to nose over. The accident resulted in one minor injury and no fatalities.
The investigation
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures present in the aircraft prior to the accident that would have prevented normal operation.
