What happened
On July 11, 2013, at approximately 1610 UTC, a Diamond DA40-180, registration N293DS, struck mountainous terrain in the Ticlio region of Peru. The aircraft was operating a visual flight rules flight from Lib Mandy Metropolitano Airport (SPLX) in Lima to Capitán FAP Leonardo Alvariño Herr Airport (SPRM) in San Ramon.
The flight departed from SPLX at approximately 1540 UTC. During the flight, the pilot did not report any en route contact points. The wreckage was located at an elevation of 14,500 feet mean sea level, where it was found burning. The impact and subsequent postcrash fire resulted in 2 fatal injuries for the pilot and passenger. The aircraft was destroyed.
