Accident Overview
On July 11, 2013, about 1610 universal coordinated time (UTC), a Diamond DA40-180, registration N293DS, impacted mountainous terrain while en route to Capitán FAP Leonardo Alvariño Herr Airport (SPRM), San Ramon, Peru. The airplane was destroyed by impact and a postcrash fire. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured.
Flight Details
The aircraft was registered to Aero Advantage Corporation and operated by a private individual. It departed from Lib Mandy Metropolitano Airport (SPLX) in Lima, Peru, about 1540 UTC on a personal flight to SPRM. A visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan had been filed. Weather conditions at the time of the accident are unknown. During the flight, the pilot was not reporting any en route contact points.
Wreckage Location
The wreckage was found burning in the Ticlio region at an elevation of 14,500 feet mean sea level. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Peru. Further information can be obtained from the Comision de Investigacion de Accidentes de Aviacion (CIAA).
