Event Narrative
A pilot was taxiing north on the west side of a runway, outside the runway markers, in preparation for takeoff. While maneuvering the airplane to avoid a pothole, the pilot lost sight of a windsock pole against the clutter of trees lining the airport boundary. Subsequently, the left wing of the airplane struck the windsock pole, resulting in substantial damage to the wing spar.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. No other contributing factors were mentioned in the report.
Damage Assessment
The collision with the windsock pole caused substantial damage to the wing spar of the airplane. The extent of damage was limited to the wing structure, and no other parts of the aircraft were reported as damaged.
