Accident Details
A tailwheel-equipped airplane was departing from a gravel airstrip. During the takeoff roll, the airplane began to veer to the left. The pilot attempted to correct the deviation by applying right rudder, but the veering continued. In response, the pilot decreased engine power.
Ground Loop and Damage
Despite the reduction in power, the left wheel of the airplane encountered a berm alongside the airstrip. This contact precipitated a ground loop, during which the left wing sustained substantial damage. The extent of the damage was not further specified.
Pilot Report
In the aftermath of the accident, the pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane. According to the pilot, the airplane was functioning normally prior to and during the takeoff attempt, with no issues that would have precluded normal operation.
