Accident Notification
The Aeronautical Accident Prevention and Investigation Center of Brazil (CENIPA) notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of an accident involving an Airbus A330-203 aircraft, registration PT-MVL. The accident occurred on September 1, 2013.
Investigation Oversight
In response, the NTSB appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist in the investigation. This appointment was made under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (ICAO Annex 13), which governs the investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents. The NTSB's involvement stems from its role as the State of Manufacture of an aircraft component, indicating that a component of the aircraft was manufactured in the United States.

All investigative information will be released by CENIPA, the authority responsible for the accident investigation in Brazil. The NTSB will support the investigation as requested by CENIPA.
