Accident Overview
A pilot operating a tricycle landing gear-equipped airplane performed a landing on a soft tidal beach. The pilot reported having landed at the same location the previous day without any issues.
Sequence of Events
During the landing roll, the airplane's landing gear encountered an area of soft sand. This caused the airplane to nose over, leading to substantial damage to the right wing and the left lift strut.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. In the recommendation section of the NTSB Accident/Incident Reporting Form 6120.1, the pilot suggested that the accident may have been prevented if he had a better knowledge and understanding of landing conditions on tidal beaches.
Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the right wing and left lift strut. No other damage was reported.
