Landing and Deceleration
The pilot reported that during the approach to land, the airplane floated and required forward pressure on the control yoke to complete the descent, which consumed approximately 200 feet of runway. The landing itself was described as normal, but after touchdown the braking effectiveness on the grass runway was insufficient, and the airplane did not slow as anticipated.
Evasive Maneuver and Collision
Faced with a longer-than-expected runout, the pilot elected to turn off the runway and enter an adjacent farm field. Along the edge of the runway, hidden in tall grass, there was a ridge measuring 18 to 20 inches in height. The airplane struck this ridge, resulting in separation of the nose landing gear and the aircraft nosing over.
Mechanical Status
The pilot stated that there were no pre-impact mechanical difficulties with the airplane.
