Accident Details
A pilot was practicing landings in a tailwheel-equipped airplane. During the landing roll, while experiencing gusting wind conditions, the airplane began to veer to the left. The pilot applied control inputs but was unable to maintain directional control. Subsequently, the airplane started to bounce several times, and the main landing gear collapsed.
Sequence of Events
As the airplane skidded to a stop, the right wing struck a sign. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the airplane. The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
