Accident Details
A certificated flight instructor (CFI) was conducting a local training flight and demonstrating a run-on landing to a student pilot. The helicopter began to drift toward the right edge of the paved surface during the landing maneuver.
Sequence of Events
The CFI applied left cyclic input to counter the rightward slide. As the helicopter neared the edge of the paved area, the CFI raised the collective in an attempt to transition into a hover. However, the helicopter departed the paved surface and subsequently rolled onto its right side.
Damage
The rollover caused substantial damage to the tail boom, main rotor blades, and fuselage. According to a written report, no mechanical malfunctions with the helicopter were identified prior to the accident.
