Accident Details
During a takeoff from runway 32, the airplane encountered a crosswind. As the tailwheel lifted off the runway, the airplane began to veer to the left. The pilot applied right rudder and brake in an attempt to correct the deviation, but the airplane continued off the runway surface.
Damage
The right wing dragged along the ground, and the right main landing gear separated from the aircraft. The event resulted in substantial damage to the airplane.
Pilot Report and Wind Conditions
The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation. Wind at the time of the accident was recorded from 240 degrees at 10 knots, gusting to 14 knots.
