What happened
On March 4, 2014, a Bombardier DHC-8-400 operated by EUROLOT SA was performing a flight along the route from Lyon (LFVB) to Przylęce (EPRZ). During the transit, the flight crew received two specific cockpit warnings: "WSHLD CTRL" and "WSHLD HOT".
Upon receiving these alerts, the crew assessed the environmental conditions and determined that there were no icing conditions present at the time. Following consultation with Maintenance Control Center (MCC) and flight coordinators, the crew decided to divert the aircraft to Kraków, where technical maintenance services were available to address the issue.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the technical nature of the warnings and the operational decisions made by the crew. The PKBWL examined the sequence of events leading to the decision to land in Kraków and the specific system failures indicated by the cockpit alerts.
