What happened
On April 30, 2014, at approximately 2215 UTC, a Cessna T210N, registration PR-WCO, crashed while attempting a go-around at an airstrip in Para, Brazil. The aircraft, operated by Mineradora Bom Jesus Ltda, had departed from Novo Progresso Airport (SJNP) approximately 45 minutes prior to the accident. No flight plan had been filed for the flight.
At the time of the accident, weather conditions were within visual meteorological limits (VMC) with a visibility of 6 statute miles and winds from 110 degrees at 6 knots. The aircraft was approaching a 1,968-foot runway constructed of slate. The arrival was scheduled for after sunset, which had occurred at 2145 UTC, and the airstrip was not equipped or prepared for night operations.
Witnesses observed the aircraft enter a steep left bank during the go-around, which led to an aerodynamic stall. The aircraft subsequently struck trees and terrain, resulting in a postcrash fire. The accident resulted in 2 fatal injuries, involving the pilot and one passenger. The aircraft was destroyed by the impact and fire.
