Incident Overview
A pilot was engaged in practice takeoffs and landings within the airport traffic pattern. After departing, the pilot encountered turbulent air conditions and decided to land. The pilot made two landing attempts; during the third attempt, the airplane touched down long and overran the runway.
Sequence of Events
Following the overrun, the airplane traveled over an embankment, made contact with several logs, nosed over, and came to rest inverted. A post-accident examination revealed substantial damage to the fuselage, left wing, and vertical stabilizer.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures had occurred that would have precluded normal operation of the airplane.
