A pilot encountered a wind gust during flare, causing the airplane to veer off the runway. During a subsequent go-around, the pilot lost control, resulting in substantial damage to the left wing.

Incident Details

A pilot reported that during the final approach to the runway, wind gusts and turbulence were encountered. However, the air became calm approximately 300 feet above the ground. During the flare, as the wheels made contact with the runway, a gust of wind caused the airplane to veer left off the runway surface. The left main wheel traveled into the grass alongside the runway.

In response, the pilot initiated a go-around. However, the airplane did not gain altitude, and the pilot reported losing control of the airplane. The airplane subsequently veered to the right, crossed the runway, and traveled up an embankment. The pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies with the airplane. A post-accident examination revealed substantial damage to the left wing.
