Incident Details
The pilot of a float-equipped airplane reported that the incident occurred during a departure from a small remote lake. Shortly after lift-off, while in the initial climb, the airplane encountered a strong downdraft. In response, the pilot selected a forced landing site in an area characterized by marshy terrain and brush cover.
Damage and Mechanical Status
During the forced landing, the left wing made contact with a stand of tall brush. This impact caused the airplane to pivot 90 degrees to the left, and subsequently, the left float struck the shoreline. The left wing sustained substantial damage. The pilot indicated that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation of the airplane.
