Accident Details
A pilot conducted a landing on a gravel airstrip oriented southwest. The wind was from the southeast at 10 knots, gusting to 15 knots. During the landing, the airplane bounced and then drifted to the right side of the airstrip.
Sequence of Events
The airplane touched down again with the right main landing gear on the edge of the airstrip. It continued moving to the right and entered an adjacent grain field. After traveling approximately 100 feet into the field, the nose wheel dug into the ground, causing the airplane to nose over.
Damage
The fuselage and wings sustained substantial damage during the nosing over event. The pilot reported that there was no mechanical failure or malfunction of the airplane.
