During a touch-and-go landing on runway 24, an airplane veered left after applying full throttle, exited the runway into grass, and collided with trees, resulting in substantial damage.

Incident Overview

A pilot reported that during a touch-and-go landing on runway 24, the airplane was initially high on final approach. The pilot touched down approximately 400 feet from the arrival end of the runway. After applying full throttle for the subsequent takeoff, the airplane veered significantly to the left. Despite the pilot's attempts to regain directional control, the airplane departed the left side of the runway and entered the grass area.

Sequence of Events

Once on the grass, the pilot applied wheel brakes. The wheels skidded across the grass until the airplane contacted trees. Following the impact with trees, the airplane spun around violently and came to a stop.

Investigation Findings

An inspector from the Federal Aviation Administration examined the airplane and confirmed substantial damage to the fuselage and wings. The pilot reported that there were no pre-impact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.
