Accident Overview
On September 8, 2014, at approximately 2120 coordinated universal time, a Cessna 182P, Colombian registration HK-1921, was substantially damaged during a ditching into the Vaupes River near Mitu, Colombia. The aircraft was operating under Colombian flight regulations.
Flight Details
The flight had departed from Fabio Alberto León Bentley Airport (SKMU) and was destined for Tapurucuara Airport (MUR). According to preliminary information released by the Government of Colombia, about one minute after takeoff, the airplane's engine lost power. The pilot attempted to return to the airport but was unable to do so, subsequently performing a landing on the Vaupes River.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot sustained minor injuries. One passenger was seriously injured, and the other passenger was fatally injured. The aircraft was substantially damaged.
