Accident Overview
The pilot of a single-engine airplane was on final approach for landing when he noticed another airplane on the runway. The departing aircraft was not clearing the runway as quickly as the pilot anticipated. As the end of the runway neared, the pilot decided to abort the landing and initiate a go-around.
Aerodynamic Stall and Impact
During the attempted go-around, the airplane experienced an aerodynamic stall. The aircraft subsequently impacted trees. The collision resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage, wings, rudder, and horizontal stabilator.
Postaccident Examination
Following the accident, a Federal Aviation Administration inspector examined the aircraft. The inspector confirmed continuity of the flight controls from the cockpit to all flight control surfaces. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical anomalies prior to the incident.
