Accident Overview
The pilot was landing a tailwheel-equipped airplane in variable wind conditions. On final approach, a right crosswind was noted, and appropriate corrections were applied, resulting in a good landing.
Sequence of Events
Immediately after touchdown, the airplane turned left. The pilot was unable to correct the deviation with right aileron and right rudder inputs. A go-around was initiated, but the airplane subsequently hit a fence post. The airplane stalled and turned right approximately 20-30 feet above ground. It then impacted the runway on its right wing, right main landing gear, and nose.
Damage
The airplane sustained structural damage to its wings and fuselage.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.
