Landing Roll Incident: Nose Wheel Separation and Nose-Over Following Runway Departure

Accident Details

The pilot reported performing a preflight inspection with no anomalies noted. After departing from an airport, the airplane flew to another airport where a touch-and-go landing maneuver was executed. The airplane then returned to the original departure airport. During the landing roll, the pilot applied the brakes. The airplane subsequently veered to the left and departed the left side of the runway. It continued through grass and struck the taxiway pavement, causing the nose wheel to separate from the airplane. The airplane then traveled across the taxiway and, upon impacting the grass on the opposite side, nosed over and came to rest inverted. This resulted in substantial damage to the rudder.

Findings

A postaccident examination of the airplane revealed no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions and stated that "better control of braking" may have prevented the accident.
