Accident Overview
On January 10, 2015, at approximately 2000 universal coordinated time, a Robinson R44 II helicopter, Brazilian registration PR-HPR, was destroyed by impact and post-crash fire following a collision with wires and terrain. The accident occurred in Santa Monica, Parana, Brazil, during cruise flight. The Brazilian certificated pilot sustained fatal injuries, and one passenger was seriously injured.
Flight Details
The flight originated from Porto Rico, Brazil, and was destined for Santa Monica, Brazil. The helicopter was in cruise flight when it collided with high-tension electrical wires located above a highway. This initial impact led to an uncontrolled descent, after which the helicopter struck the roadway. It then skidded approximately 250 meters before coming to rest and catching fire.
Investigation
The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Aeronautical Accident Prevention and Investigation Center (CENIPA) of Brazil. As of the source report, no probable cause has been stated, and further information may be obtained from CENIPA.
