What happened
On January 10, 2015, at approximately 2000 UTC, a Robinson R44 II, registered as PR-HPR, was conducting a flight from Porto Rico, Brazil, to Santa Monica, Brazil. While in the cruise phase of flight, the helicopter struck high-tension electrical wires positioned above a highway.
Following the collision with the wires, the aircraft entered an uncontrolled descent and struck the roadway. The helicopter skidded approximately 250 meters before coming to a stop, at which point a post-crash fire occurred. The accident resulted in 1 fatality and 1 serious injury.
