Incident Overview
During a landing, the airplane veered off the left side of the runway under a left gusting crosswind. The pilot reported applying right rudder and left aileron inputs to counteract the wind. The left main landing gear touched down first. When the right main landing gear contacted the runway, a gust of wind lifted the left wing, leading to a loss of directional control.
Runway Excursion
The airplane subsequently veered off the left side of the runway and entered a grassy area adjacent to the runway. The nose landing gear collapsed during this excursion. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the engine firewall.
Pilot Statement
The pilot stated that there was no mechanical malfunction or failure of the airplane. No injuries were reported among the pilot and passenger. The maximum demonstrated crosswind velocity for the airplane was 17 knots.
