What happened
On March 7, 2015, a pilot was conducting practice touch-and-go takeoffs and landings in an CUB CRAFTER CC11-160 under visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with winds at 220 degrees at 5 knots and 10 miles of visibility.
During the rollout following the fifth landing, the pilot was configuring the aircraft, N348CC, for the next takeoff when the airplane departed the right side of the runway. In an attempt to abort the landing, the pilot applied full power. The aircraft traveled approximately 75 feet across the grass apron before striking an embankment and a drainage culvert. The impact caused substantial damage to both wings. The pilot was not injured.
The investigation
The pilot reported that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions present in the aircraft prior to the impact that would have prevented normal operations.
