What happened
On March 31, 2015, at approximately 2210 UTC, a Bell 206L4 helicopter, registered as CC-APP, was involved in a fatal accident near Diego de Alessa, Chile. The aircraft was operating a private flight from Aerodromo Chamonate, Copiapo, Chile, to the Wara Resort Heliport, Copiapo, Chile.
Prior to the accident, at 1901 UTC, the pilot notified air traffic control that the destination heliport was in sight. After changing radio frequencies, the aircraft ceased all communications. The helicopter was located two days later in a mountainous area approximately 37 kilometers east of Diego de Almagro.
The aircraft struck power lines during maneuvers, resulting in a post-crash fire that destroyed the helicopter. The pilot and three passengers sustained 4 fatal injuries.
