Hard Landing Following Nose Lift by Wind Gust

Incident Overview

A pilot reported that during the landing roll, a gust of wind lifted the nose of the tri-cycle landing gear equipped airplane. This resulted in abnormal contact with the runway and a subsequent hard landing.

Damage Assessment

The hard landing inflicted substantial damage to the airplane's fuselage, cockpit floor board, and firewall. The pilot stated that there were no pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation.
